Summary
The day after his sentencing, Kvothe is whipped in the Quoyan Hayel, the House of the Wind. Hundreds of students crowd windows, doorways, and rooftops to watch. Kvothe chooses stoicism as defiance; he does not cry out, bleed, or faint, and he leaves under his own power, head high.
Afterward, Mola treats him in the Medica, placing fifty-seven precise stitches across his back. Her skill stabilizes his injuries and allows Kvothe to move, turning the spectacle’s aftermath into manageable wounds rather than incapacitation.
