Summary
Lyra and Grayson begin in the hidden Hawthorne House vault, which Oren opens with a fingerprint scan. Oren blames himself for Avery’s endangerment, but Grayson asserts Avery will return and hands Oren Tobias’s ring of keys, asking him to take them to Zara and seek her insight on possible hiding places.
As Oren departs, Grayson notes Oren and Zara’s history and turns to the vault’s contents. He observes that Tobias left all of Alice’s jewelry to Nan—an intentional outlier. Lyra and Grayson sift through drawers of extravagant pieces. Among the men’s watches, Lyra notices a roulette watch Grayson once coveted; Grayson admits he no longer wants it, hinting at his shifting priorities.
The moment sparks a deeper current between them, and Grayson suddenly remembers something. He leads Lyra to his room and retrieves a midnight‑blue velvet ring box. He explains the ring belonged to Alice; Nan gave it to Nash, who passed it to Grayson for safekeeping.
