Overview
Lyra deciphers the fleur-de-lis as four roles, prompting Nora to reveal the Kyrie: trainers of Watchers and a check on the Judge’s power. Nora argues Alice called the Crucible to bargain for lives, admits she was meant to be Candidate, and warns the current Omega must not become the Judge.
Revealing her brutal Kyrie upbringing, Nora insists she must be the third Candidate and urges Grayson to hide Lyra from the Omega. She exits, leaving the team with a clearer hierarchy, dire stakes, and a path forward.
Summary
Lyra reels from memories of her family and Alice’s warnings until Grayson grounds her. Tension spikes as Jameson confronts Nora, who claims to know little. Gigi adds to the timeline, linking Vega’s line to Alice’s second Crucible and Lyra’s constellation names, prompting Lyra to decode the fleur-de-lis as four parts: Lily, Monoceros, and two Omegas.
Nora confirms there are three Ascendants and a fourth force: the Kyrie. She explains the Kyrie train Watchers in lethal arts and sit in judgment of the Judge as a check and balance. The Judge (Monoceros) alone controls access to the web and the identities of Blade families; if compromised, the Kyrie “purify” the judgment.
Nora implies Alice called the Crucible to bargain for lives and reveals Alice had intended Nora as Candidate but chose Avery due to the rule requiring close personal ties. She contrasts cascade believers with those favoring direct action, stating the current Kyrie leadership pushes aggression.
Nora warns the current Omega, known to her as the Lily in red, must not become Monoceros. She describes the ruthless Kyrie head—who killed her husband and brutally trained Nora, her stepdaughter—and shows scars. Nora claims her only chance to “tear it all down” is the Crucible and insists the third Candidate must be her.
Nora asks that Lyra be kept secure so the Omega cannot reach her, asserting plans can still proceed if Lyra is protected. Grayson restrains and then releases Nora; Jameson demands to know Avery’s fate. Nora says she believes Avery can live, then leaves unopposed.
