Summary
Haunted by revealing her resurfaced memories, Lyra arrives at Mile’s End with Grayson in the middle of the night. After emotional reunions, Lyra demands her parents’ account of her fourth-birthday abduction. Darby and Keith explain she was a happy child with no signs of trauma and that therapists advised taking her lead when she never mentioned the incident.
They recount that Lyra insisted on attending preschool in a new dress and cleats. A man arrived claiming to be her father; staff, swayed by appearance, released Lyra to him without ID. When Darby came for pickup, Lyra was gone. Police involvement led to Lyra being found barefoot outside the sheriff’s office that night; hospital exams and tox screen were clear, and she had no memory, asking about school and her cleats.
Lyra shares what she now remembers: the abductor took her to 947 Onomo Crescent, gave her a flower and a candy necklace, mispronounced her name, wished her a happy birthday, then went upstairs and shot himself—apparently twice. She recalls seeing blood, though her mother confirms none was on Lyra when found, suggesting memory gaps or mixed scenes.
