CHAPTER 43: GIGI
Overview
Gigi discovers Savannah, Rohan, and Brady have left for England without her—and even took her kitten—leaving Gigi feeling abandoned and sidelined. Outside, a wounded Mattias Slater appears, revealing Eve accepted the invitation and shot him. Rejecting hospitals or police, Slate asks Gigi for help, and Gigi and Knox step in.
Summary
Gigi wakes to find the loft empty except for Knox and quickly realizes Savannah has left with Rohan and Brady—without her. The abandonment stings, especially when Gigi notices they even took her kitten. Knox implies Alisa wants Gigi sent home, deepening Gigi’s sense of being sidelined.
Gigi wrestles with regret over refusing Calla’s offer to infiltrate the Gilded Blade, feeling she passed on a chance to act and prove herself. Knox awkwardly offers support as Gigi spirals, contrasting her open emotions with Savannah’s practiced masks.
As Gigi storms outside to clear her head, she encounters Mattias Slater lurking in the shadows, unnaturally still. Slate, addressing her as “sunshine,” asks for help. Knox objects, but Gigi approaches and sees blood dripping to the ground; Slate has been shot.
Pressed for an explanation, Slate names Eve as the shooter and says she wanted “in” and got an invitation—confirming Eve accepted where Gigi refused. Despite calling it a “nick,” Slate is actively bleeding and refuses hospitals or police.
Needing purpose, Gigi seizes on the chance to help. She declares she can stitch the wound and asks Knox for supplies. Knox, exasperated but committed, agrees to assist, and the three prepare to treat Slate off the books.
