CHAPTER 41: ROHAN

After carrying Savannah and Gigi from the Thorp estate, Rohan keeps vigil at the bayou loft, repeatedly checking their breathing. Aware that Gigi refused Calla’s offer and that the Watcher will seek another candidate, he decides to find Nora, whom he never promised not to use as bait.

As Rohan moves through the bayou, Brady Daniels tails him and confronts his intent. They agree Nora might try to attract the Watcher and head to where she might stage such a move.

They find Nora by the Saint Adelaide statue at the Musée. Calm and prepared, Nora spars verbally, implying she may have intercepted Calla and declaring that “one way or another” Calla Thorp is no more. She suggests the Watcher rejected her and claims she may want to tear the entire enterprise down, warning about the danger of true believers.

Nora forces Rohan to acknowledge she will yield no more intel and confirms she is not a threat to those he protects. She notes there are others they can question. To Brady, she states that Calla will not come to him and, by demonstrating the power of eliciting protection, implies Calla targeted Gigi for her ability to inspire sympathy.

Declaring she won’t fight and threatening to scream for aid if touched, Nora announces she is leaving town. Rohan allows her to go, accepting that any information given was intentional and that further answers must be sought elsewhere.
