Summary
Before dawn in the bayou, Rohan wakes from a recurring nightmare of blindness and a mother’s warning, centering himself by cataloging every sound and movement around the shack he is guarding. Remembering Savannah’s secret nighttime conversation and his duty to protect the assets, he remains hyperalert.
Rohan senses an intruder and spots a silent, agile female figure watching from the shadows. He vaults into pursuit through fog and thick vegetation, closing the distance despite her extraordinary speed and terrain sense. He tackles her, but in the struggle realizes she is not Calla Thorp, the person he expected.
The woman expertly shifts tactics—masking her skill with a feigned American accent and playing helpless before attempting eye gouges and biting. When Knox Landry arrives, Rohan pins her while Knox searches her, recovering multiple concealed knives and a single folded paper.
They unfold the paper to reveal what looks like a medieval image of a crowned woman holding a church, with the handwritten words “Juliet Grayson” in the margin. The find suggests the watcher’s true objective and diverts suspicion from Calla, introducing a new lead tied to the name on the note.
