After hours of interview preparation with Landon, Avery leaves frustrated and restless. Grayson notices Avery looks angry and offers a different outlet: swinging a sword.

Grayson leads Avery through the topiary garden to a hedge maze Avery has never seen before. Avery briefly thinks of Jameson and feels uncertain about being there with Grayson, but reminds herself that her relationship with Jameson has no strings attached.

At the maze’s center, Grayson reveals a hidden steel compartment in the ground and removes two wrapped longswords. He explains that the fifteenth-century Italian weapons probably belong in a museum, then teaches Avery how to hold one properly and let the sword guide her movement.

Avery recognizes that practicing with real swords is a bad idea, but after being forced into an unwanted interview because of Ricky and Skye, Avery embraces the recklessness. As Grayson instructs Avery, Avery apologizes for the interview and for how Grayson has been pulled into the situation.

The sword practice turns more emotionally charged as Avery and Grayson spar and banter about Grayson’s disinheritance. Grayson steps closer until the swords are the only thing separating them, and the tension between them becomes unmistakable. When Avery asks what they are doing, Grayson pulls back and says, “Nothing.”
