Avery answers a call expecting Jameson but hears Grayson instead. Grayson explains that Jameson dared him to call, and Avery realizes the brothers are playing Drink or Dare and that Grayson may be drunk. When Grayson accidentally fails to hang up, Avery keeps listening as Jameson shifts the game toward Drink or Truth and asks what Grayson said to Avery after they solved Tobias Hawthorne’s puzzle.

Before Grayson can answer, someone arrives at the door. Avery hears the conversation change as Sheffield Grayson, Grayson’s biological father, enters. Sheffield is not surprised to see Grayson and coldly frames Grayson’s existence as a potential risk, saying he expected Skye to reveal him years earlier.

Grayson confronts Sheffield with the facts of his conception: Sheffield was married then and still has a family. Sheffield assumes Grayson and Jameson want money because they have recently lost the Hawthorne fortune, but Grayson rejects that. Instead, Grayson says he is investigating what happened twenty years earlier on Hawthorne Island.

Sheffield reacts sharply when Grayson suggests the press coverage of the island tragedy was incomplete. Grayson offers information about Sheffield’s nephew Colin in exchange for the truth. Sheffield then attacks Tobias Hawthorne’s reputation, claiming Tobias shaped the media story, hid anything unflattering to the Hawthorne family, and protected Toby.

As Jameson needles Sheffield about Colin, Sheffield defends his nephew as troubled but salvageable and lashes out at Kaylie Rooney and her family as criminals. Grayson presses Sheffield into acknowledging that Kaylie did not cause the fire. Sheffield finally reveals that the Hawthorne Island fire was arson and that private investigators found the accelerant had been purchased by Toby Hawthorne.
