Oren is finally allowed to visit Avery while Avery recovers at Hawthorne House. Oren explains that the bomb was hidden inside the plane’s engine for days and triggered remotely, but the timing was off; if Avery had been slightly closer, Avery would have died. Oren also reveals that two of Oren’s men were killed, leaving Avery overwhelmed with guilt.

Avery realizes the timing means the Rooneys were not responsible, even though their threat was the reason Avery had brought so much security. Avery connects the bombing to the professional who appeared at True North and asks who that person was working for, but Oren does not get the chance to answer.

Alisa enters, visibly shaken by seeing Avery alive, and thanks Oren for letting Alisa in. The tension between Alisa and Oren makes clear that Alisa’s decision to move Avery back to Hawthorne House without permission caused serious damage. Alisa defends the choice because it saved Avery’s inheritance, saying it cost Alisa the family but worked.

Avery asks about the police investigation. Alisa says the bombing was professional, but the police traced it back to Skye Hawthorne and Ricky Grambs, who were arrested. Avery realizes Ricky’s name on Avery’s birth certificate makes him one of Avery’s heirs, alongside Libby, giving Ricky the same financial motive Skye had.

Alisa then reveals that the DNA test Avery ordered has come back. Avery thinks Avery already knows the result and says Ricky is not Avery’s father, but Alisa corrects Avery: according to the test, Ricky Grambs is Avery’s father.
