An hour after the previous events, Avery seeks out Xander in his hidden lab because Avery needs to tell someone what happened. Avery chooses Xander because the investigation began as the game Tobias Hawthorne seemed to leave for him, and Avery feels Xander is owed the truth.

Xander explains that although Tobias may have expected him to start the game, Tobias also knew Xander would not follow a straight path to a planned endpoint. Xander contrasts himself with his brothers, saying Jameson has focus, Grayson finishes what he starts, and Nash moves from point A to point B in his own way, while Xander follows diversions wherever they lead.

When Avery asks where Xander’s path led, Xander activates an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine. Its chain reaction reveals a hidden wall covered with photographs of brown-skinned men whose last name is Alexander, showing that Xander has pursued his own personal line of inquiry rather than simply reaching the solution Avery expected.

Before Avery can tell Xander what Avery found, Xander gives Avery Thea’s phone number, explaining that Thea wanted to be told Avery is alive but that Avery should be prepared when dealing with her. Xander then reveals a second workshop containing life-sized recreations of three beloved Star Wars droids, which Xander has made for Max.
