After leaving Skye Hawthorne’s suite, Avery reels from Skye’s revelation that Skye is involved with Ricky Grambs. Avery clings to the belief that Ricky is not her father, but the connection still matters because Ricky is listed on Avery’s birth certificate and has a possible claim to her if Avery dies without a will.

Avery’s fear sharpens when Avery realizes Skye may be trying to have a child with Ricky. Avery is disturbed less for herself than for Libby, because any child of Ricky’s would be Libby’s half sibling, and Avery’s loyalty to Libby makes that possibility emotionally dangerous.

In the elevator, Oren angrily confronts Avery for slipping her protection detail and entering a room with Skye, a woman who previously tried to have Avery killed, while Skye is sleeping with a man who could benefit from Avery’s death. Avery turns the accusation back on Oren, demanding to know why he did not know about Skye and Ricky, and Jameson realizes that Oren did know.

When the elevator opens into the lobby, Jameson tries to pull Avery away, but Eli blocks him and Oren intervenes. Oren insists Avery is going only to school, keeping the confrontation quiet as bystanders recognize Avery and begin taking pictures. Jameson silently tempts Avery to run with him, but Avery chooses restraint, and Jameson publicly agrees to play it safe while privately promising that the matter is only settled for now.
