Summary

At dusk, Elend reviews the risks of attending Yomen’s ball; Ham and Cett debate leadership contingencies if Elend and Vin fall. Vin appears in a striking gown, lightening the mood, and she and Elend depart by Allomantic flight toward Fadrex.
The pair lands dramatically on Keep Orielle’s steps, intentionally abandoning subtlety to project confidence. Inside, nobles freeze as the servant announces “High Emperor” Elend and “Empress Vin Venture.” Guards hesitate until Yomen signals them back, choosing to maintain decorum rather than escalate, which steadies the room and invites political theater.
Elend and Vin split up to maximize influence. Elend intends to circulate and gauge potential support, delaying direct parley with Yomen to let their presence unsettle the court.
