In the Homeland, TenSoon sits imprisoned in an iron cage erected by the Second Generation. They postpone formal sentencing to publicly shame him, letting all generations observe the greatest kandra criminal. TenSoon wrestles with whether his warning to the Trustwarren accomplished anything as he surveys everyday kandra life continuing around him.
MeLaan approaches the cage and challenges TenSoon’s submission. She reports that ash blankets the world, mists now come by day and kill, men march to war, and Ruin has returned—validating TenSoon’s fears.
