Chapter 7
Overview
Back in the safe room, Carl and Donut discover that the new Blood Bar mechanic limits their rest time and that Mordecai's forced Moon Reaper form is dangerously unstable. His involuntary prophecies and race-triggered glitches unsettle the whole group, raising the possibility that he will have to be kept apart from others on this floor.
The chapter also strengthens Carl and Donut's toolkit: Donut reveals major new Assassin of Sekhmet abilities, and Carl learns Oozy Form from a living spell book. These gains matter because the pair are preparing for harsher race heats while even their "safe" space has become more restrictive and unpredictable.
Summary
Carl and Donut enter their safe room and immediately learn that the new Blood Bar rule limits them to ten hours inside unless they refill the timer by killing enemies. Their attention is pulled to Mordecai, whose floor-specific form is now a towering, grim-reaper-like creature called a Moon Reaper. When Carl examines him, the description warns that Moon Reapers have terrifying gaze abilities, and Mordecai suddenly drops his tea, reveals a flaming eye beneath his hood, and delivers ominous, personalized prophecies to both Carl and Donut.
After Donut asks him to stop, Mordecai snaps back to himself and explains that the prophecy episode is an involuntary Moon Reaper effect that should only happen once per person. His body then begins glitching through multiple forms, including his Canadian appearance, a cat, an otter, and a slug, before settling again. Mordecai says the form is unstable because he is really a shadow mimic, not a true Moon Reaper, and this impossible combination is causing the errors.
Rosetta, Bigs, Splash Zone, and Samantha have already seen similar incidents, and Rosetta suggests keeping Mordecai separated from the others because the glitches seem to trigger whenever a new race approaches him for the first time. Bigs angrily reports that Mordecai predicted she would drown in fire, and Splash Zone says Mordecai told him he would die screaming while his family watched. Mordecai tries to calm everyone by insisting that such predictions are designed to be frightening and vague rather than truly accurate, though the experience has clearly rattled the group.
The tension breaks when Donut finds mail in the safe-room mailbox and a living spell book scurries loose across the room, trailing slime. The cleaner bot catches it, and Carl identifies it as a special-edition spell book for Oozy Form, which allows the user to become slime and move through cracks or hide defensively. Donut rejects the spell as disgusting and points out that her new Assassin of Sekhmet class already gave her Smoke Form, along with buffs to her Oak Fell and vermin spells, a healing aura called Healer's Grasp, and more rewards still unopened. At Mordecai's urging, Carl takes Oozy Form himself so both he and Donut will have flexible movement options before the next challenges.
