Mordecai warns Carl that his costume skill is now too advanced to safely shed the kangaroo skin; trying to remove it with the usual skill could take real skin with it, and Laundry Day would work only by painfully flaying him. Bucket Boy is overwhelmed with relief, while Carl notes that killing Prison Pocket gave him most of the damage credit, three levels, boss boxes, and achievements.

Carl reviews the wider results from the second heat. Their race had been unusually bad because it included a province boss, but Zhang, Li Na, and Tran also survived their province-boss encounter, and only one NPC team was eliminated overall. The news is worse for some allied crawler teams, which lost two members each and may be forced to race other crawlers next time. Carl is also worried because his own team finished last, which means their vehicle upgrade will be chosen by the audience instead of by them.

At the garage, Hedy meets them as Dr. Metcalf announces the next race parameters. Heat three will be a 30-kilometer run down a steep paved road with only one path, a 20-minute limit, and waves of generated mobs, and it begins in just eight hours. The information makes Carl groan because he is still trapped in the dead joey costume for even longer, and Donut points out that the bulky feet may keep Carl from using the pedals at all.

As the team unloads, Hedy and the others joke about Carl's grotesque outfit, while Mongo and Rend cause minor chaos around the truck. Hedy reports that the audience vote has already finished and says the result will at least make Donut more protected in the next race. At that exact moment, Donut abruptly remembers they should probably warn Bucket Boy not to say something, but Bucket Boy jumps out and excitedly blurts that he saw Corcunda and Pontiff.
