The system announces that this is Rend's sixth death, so he keeps his memories and identity, becomes 25 percent stronger, and gains a new random weakness. The new weakness is potatoes, which makes Carl angrily accuse the system of choosing it just to torment him.

Rend seems unconcerned by his own death and resurrection and starts moving toward the open garage door. Because Carl knows Rend is now too dangerous and unpredictable to roam freely, Carl tells Donut and the others in chat that he cannot keep Rend in the safe room or let him into the garage. Carl decides the safest option is to keep Rend in his carrier except during fights, even though Rend will hate it.

Imani suggests another partial solution: the guild's pet stables, where Gonk the yak and Simoom the rhino are still being kept. When Carl asks why they were not moved to the twelfth floor, Imani explains that the rushed preparations for Katia's departure caused confusion and Simoom was left behind. Even with that option available, Carl chooses to put Rend in his inventory for the moment and tries to coax him into the carrier for a nap.

Rosetta and Tipid then return from their errand, briefly distracted by Samantha trying to bite a cleaner bot. Rosetta reports that they may have found a fleshmancer, and Tipid says he believes the hidden performance guild is inside the bar Carl already visited, though getting in will require something Carl probably will not like. When Carl asks about mercenaries, Rosetta reveals that the only ones available are two level 25 Jikininki ghouls. She warns that because they are undead, Rend could die again if he bites them, prompting Donut to dryly note that this warning has come a little too late.
