Chapter 10

Overview

Carl processes his post-floor rewards and learns that, while his achievements are less dramatic than Donut's, they still give him useful bomb supplies, a hotlist expansion, and a carrier that could let Donut phase with him. The chapter's biggest twist comes when a Naga fan box linked to his marriage to Princess Chandra does not deliver a certificate, but instead dumps Rishi's burned, filthy household junk into the safe room. The haul is immediately disruptive, yet it may hide valuable items, turning an apparent joke reward into a possible resource and another consequence of Carl's entanglement with the Naga.

Summary

Carl begins sorting through the many achievements and reward boxes he earned from the end of the previous floor. He notes that Donut received the more significant rewards because she carried much of the final fighting in Faction Wars, while his own gains are tied to bombing, briefly helping Donut destroy towers, winning Faction Wars by default, feeding Donut the Ring of Divine Suffering, and rejecting an exit deal. During this, the cleaner bot unnerves him by disintegrating the broken kitchen table, and Carl is reminded that he needs to restock bombs and remove the hidden nuke from Samantha.

As Carl opens the ordinary boxes, most of the loot is familiar utility gear, but several items stand out. He gets Bomb Blanket potions that can stop smaller bombs from detonating, plus more dynamite, hob-lobbers, surefires, and upgraded Trollish Boom Boxes, which ease his shortage of explosives. From a Gold Payload Box, Carl receives a Hotlist Expansion skill potion that would double his hotlist slots from ten to twenty.

Carl also opens a Gold Adventurer Box and finds a quadruped baby carrier sized for Donut. The item would let Donut phase with him if she rides on his chest while he uses Phase or Oozy, but Donut is appalled by the idea and refuses to wear it. Meanwhile, Carl notices Tipid standing in the training room doorway with no sign of recognition, which reinforces that Tipid's memory wipe is still in effect.

Finally, Carl opens a legendary fan box from the Naga audience, expecting his marriage certificate from Princess Chandra. Instead, the box disgorges a massive pile of scorched, wet garbage, broken furniture, ruined electronics, clothes, and damaged personal belongings from Rishi's home, all now assigned to Carl. The safe room is clogged with foul-smelling junk, Samantha happily searches it for makeup, Bigs argues that the mess is livable, Mordecai wonders how the items were transported so quickly, and Donut is outraged both by the filth and by unlicensed Donut-themed makeup hidden in the pile. Carl is left staring at the mountain of trash, unsure what to do, though the item description suggests something useful may be buried inside.
