He enters the sleeping mind, a state of piercing clarity, recognizing Felurian’s childlike, amoral nature of pure desire. Seeing the four lines of song in her eyes, he sings them, momentarily breaking her hold. Felurian counters with a word that batters his mind, but he steadies himself.

As Felurian advances, power thrumming, Kvothe again sings the four hard notes with iron resolve, shattering her glamour. He names the wind, weaving his breath into a silver flame that binds and suspends her, proving he can end her if he chooses.

Kvothe refuses to kill Felurian, judging such destruction a desecration of something wondrous. He lowers her gently and releases the binding. They regard each other warily, his brow still bearing a fading star of power as her fear turns to curiosity.
