As tension mounts and the wind rises, an urgent need to relieve himself makes Kvothe laugh, breaking his fear and anger. Remembering Celean’s play, he recovers the wind’s name gently, quieting the gusts until the sword tree falls utterly still, as if granting passage.

Kvothe deliberately takes nothing, walks out calmly, and lightly draws his palm across a leaf to bleed. Before Shehyn, he presents his bloody, closed hand—the gesture for willingness. After a long moment, Shehyn nods, and only then does the wind return, signaling his acceptance.
